Advice wanted
Looking for some advice regarding touch up paints.
I've just bought a new (to me) toy and it's damn near mint but does have a scratch or two that need attention.
I know of a place that sells the stuff in Lava red but it comes in a bottle with a brush.
Any advice on touching it up without re-spraying the whole panel?

Re: Advice wanted
Use a cocktail stick/tooth pick to apply, using a smaller applicator will allow you to apply the paint to the area required without overspill. It is a tried and tested method.

Re: Advice wanted
In my experience, touch-up is a waste of time. Like Tip-Exing your bike Get on to RS Bike Paints, get it colour matched and do it right.
Alot of new bikes have combined colours now so very hard to touch-up.
You'll only regret doing it half @rsed. when somebody says, "Nice bike, bit of a scratch there though".

Rowan
what you need is to get the paint code as there is a company that specilises in touch up kits and laquer.
Next you need to get some IPA for cleaning out the scratch mark priot to painting.
paint the area using a mega small artists brush leave it to dry then wetsand the area flat again. polish back to a gloss then lacker and re polish .
If it is done right you should not be able to tell that the scratch was ever there.
Give me a buzz if you want.

Re: Advice wanted
Thanks folks
Might just give you a shout in the next few days, cheers Dave
On another note, been comparing insurance prices pretty much all day (bored at work).
Bennetts quoted £11,367.55 for fully comp.
Hammered them down to £9300ish
Apparently I'm the youngest person to phone for a quote on that particular bike.
Sometimes I wish I was as old and wrinkly as some of you lot
Thats the advice I was looking for, can't justify taking the bike to a paint shop to have the section sprayed after spending so much money on the bike itself!Zax wrote:Rowan

Sorry to hijack your thread, but at least your question has been answered...
Lava Red and £9k to insure...
That narrows it down a bit.

For the record, I didn't pay 9k for insurance!!Dickie wrote:Sorry to hijack your thread, but at least your question has been answered...

I just wanted to let the dude think he was gonna score with his commission this month. . .
Ended up going through MCE for £700 fully comp.
Bit more reasonable if you ask me.

Personally I would just leave it then when (if) you come to sell get it repaired. Sods law as soon as you fix it it will get scratched again.

Knowing my luck, it'll get scratched the same day I repair itcoullstar wrote:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-TOUCH-UP-P ... 2899QQrdZ1

Still though, I wouldn't mind learning how to repair scratches and this gives me a good chance to do just that!
Cheers for the link.

Re: Advice wanted
Hi,
There's a company in Barnsley called RS Motorbike Paints who will be able to help. Got every damned colour there is so I understand, but you'll need to tell them the colour code for your bike.
They recommend a primer, then paint and finish with a lacquer even for very small chips and scratches.
Their tel no is 01707 273219.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
