Right then, this time I need a satnav…I survived Italy with a bit of research and street maps…easy, but this year I am heading to Norway and also I have a guest staying for a few weeks, he has not used a proper map for years and needs a satnav.
Looks like there is a lot of brand loyalty out there, but I have decided on a Garman unit
I thought the 660LM was the winner, but now there is a 590
Anyone with any experience of the 590 ?

As far as brands go I use a Garmin on the bike and a TomTom in the car (although the truck has some sort of garmin system built in). They are pretty much on a par these days.
It you only want to make one purchase I would go for a bike model and buy an additional car cradle for it. I'm not sure what the latest TomTom bike software is like but the Garmin software for the bike units is excellent. Full routing with multiple way points to create a detailed route and the ability to store multiple routes and recall them as required.
