Battery or have i f**ked the electrics ?????

Hello all,
I'm need of some advice or help please. Here's the story. On sat, finally managed to get my bike away from my ex at Inverurie to my flat in town. Bike was sitting in her back garden all Winter. Turned up on Sat moring, obviously no charge in the Battery at all. So me and pal run up & down her street (looked like complete tits) trying to bump start it in second, got a little signs of life. Then finally stuck on the portable charger we had with us and sure enough started. Managed to get her back into town, but was still obvouis little charge in the battery. Once i parked her up, i tried to start her again. Now all I'm getting is a clear clicking sound from the battery.
Now is this that the battery just needs more charge or is this more of a fucked electrical prblem? I'm hoping that i havn't knackered the electrics using the portable charger, as i know you can if you charge directly from a car battery?? Will a new battery be in order???
Any advice or suggestions anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated.
P.S: Could anyone tell me what the correct method is to charge from a car battery?
Cheers,
