What colour was the smoke and how much was there? Did it have a bluish tinge or was it blackish?
Blackish is overfuelling, bluish is oil.
Does the engine still turn over on the starter? Failure to do so could be a dropped valve or failed cam chain tensioner.
Lots of smoke could be holed piston or broken ring. A sudden production of smoke is generally not good.
Welcome aboard by the way.
