I need a new computer for one of my lads

Use, a wee bit of study and a sh1t load of gaming

Any recommendations?

Desktop or laptop?

If you are no good with computer stuff go to Dell and spac up an 'Alienware' system.

Sigh @ Big Kneed Al (master of the emergency stop & "stand up" comedian).

It also depends on what games they want to play.

In general laptops are about 30% higher price for same spec and not easily upgradable.
However these days a good spec machine will last several years, so upgrading is not such an issue.

Have a look at Alienware X51 series. Don't forget to add the cost of peripherals. No point in having a good system and plugging it into a cr*p mouse / keyboard / monitor.

And it needs to be hardwired, no wireless for gaming.

He has the gaming keyboard and mouse already…they feking cost more that entry level computers :???

I know this breaks the wireless rule, but it means you can walk around without ripping your head off :log


For the more budget minded. Almost as good as the Steelseries set in terms of sound quality.
