YZFR6 sounding like a tractor

Post by JDT »

Hi guys,
My YZFR6 has hardly been out of the garage this past year, and when warming it up last weekend I noticed it sounds really rough, like its lost a cylinder (?) or is unevenly firing.
I need help! All the bike tools and knowledge has been left at my previous address and I'm a bit stuck now.
If anyone is feeling generous with their time, and fancys a beer and tinkering with my bike, it would be appreciated!

Im in Inverurie btw ...
Cheers

Could it be bad fuel? how long has it been standing?

I started it up again, and getting 3 out of 4 cylinders heating up.
It could be the fuel has gone off, but wouldn't that affect all the cylinders?

Honestly think its been out a handful of times early last summer, and it hibernates with a full tank.

I was going to check the spark plugs for corrosion first (fairly new, irridium plugs), swap them over and see if the duff cylinder moves.
Do I need a specific tool to get the sparks out?

just a long reach spark plug tool. accessing them is a pain though as you have to remove petrol tank , air filter housing , plastic heat shield to the front of carbs and if I remember some of the front under cowlings to access the heat shield fixings. good luck though and hope you don't have the same problem I had with my 99 one.
