Brakes Sorted... What Next? - '01 GPZ500S

Post by grantwils »

After my nightmare with the brakes I've had the front and rear calipers refurbished with new pads on both. Braided hoses will be ordered this week.

I've got a wee bit of money stored away that is burning a hole in my pocket. Although only cosmetic job one is to get the paintwork sorted which will probably involve new fairing £150, belly pan £60 and screen £40 along with paint £90 and actually getting the painting done. Job 2 is new winter riding gear.

That leaves me with £500. I was thinking about getting a new monoshock, fork springs [fancy hagon ones for £55 that you read about everywhere] and possibly forks powder coated.

Have I missed anything?

How are the shock linkage bearings? You might as well strip and re-grease these properly when you do the shock.

You may need to remove the forks to get the old oil changed (if there are no drain holes), if you do it would be an idea to re-grease the headstock bearings too.

I would just paint or polish the forks rather than powdercoating because you'd need to strip the forks completely. If the seals are not leaking I'd leave them alone.

You only have a 500cc bike and you ride 2 up a lot, yeah? Why not stop spending money doing up your current bike and buy a bigger, newer bike instead?

I wouldn't say I ride two up a lot. Only a couple of times this year and only for fun. I did have a look at a nice F800ST today but am not in a position to spend any vast amount and can't get tied into any regular payments/finance deals at the moment.
