best place for engine work

a mate at work has asked me to see if i knew where he could get a problem with his gixer thou gearbox sorted, which shops are recomended for this sort of thing or are there any proper mechanics who would do it as a homer.
i know everyone has thier own opinion of the local shops, some good, some bad, so who rates where.

not sure what year, its a track bike he has, says the gear lever won't go into second unless he forces it by hand, goes up and down the gears ok other than that, something bent inside maybe?

got more info, it's a K1, 2001, he says that when the bike is in first and you kick it up into second the lever sticks in the up position, it doesn't return down to the mid position again, he can change gear fine with his hand if he moves the lever to the correct position and then up a gear again.

Sounds like the clutch springs have gone :???

on the gixer there is a return to neutrel spring on the gear drum and if it break,s thats what happens. :2up

the spring i think your mate might hav a problem with is the one thats wrapped round the shaft

Might be a lot simpler than you think

I had severe gear change probs with my K2 750. Turns out it was a common(ish) fault.

If the footpegs are standard this will apply, if he has aftermarket rearsets this wont apply.

The tolerance of the pivot point is too fine. In my case, dirt had gotten inside the bushing and was causing the pedal to stick - felt like the box but was just a case of stripping and cleaning the gear change pivot on the foot rest.
