Scottish Superbikes 8th & 9th June

Post by DarrenR »

Rounds 3 & 4 of the Scottish Superbike Championship kick off this weekend at Knockhill and it would be great to see some of your faces down there again!

Last time out i had a brilliant weekend with a Clubmans lap record, 2x 1sts and 2x 2nds, all this on my first weekend of racing :2up . This time round, with the help from various members to help me upgrade my suspension, and also with the help of ex scottish superbike champion Bob Grant, i hope to build upon that! Nae pressure.....

Saturday`s timetable has practice & qualifying am and 2x races pm
Sunday has 1x race am and 2x races pm

Gates open 9am both days and everyones welcome to a cuppy and a bullshit :cool

Yeah it's a pity you can't make this one, altho the tea cakes will last longer, so longs your pal doesn't fire in amongst them....

So longs the weather stays like this I'll be quite confident :cool

I will be down now to give you a hand, but won't lower myself to wearing a Kawacrappy fleece though.

Nae bad considering what happened to my track bike last week. ;)

Started off relatively well, qualified 10th or 11th (3rd in class) and finished up 2nd in class in the first race.

Second race on Saturday whilst sitting in 6th position overall I tucked the front at the hairpin and crashed out, I managed to get away with the leading group in that race and I was keen to throw a few decent laps in at the beginning of the race but that plan lasted not even 2 laps.... Bikes not damaged just scuffed up a bit.

What I then realised was my forks had bottomed out going into the hairpin and the line I was using took me over a little bump, the front suspension is also standard and hasn't even been looked at in a couple years so I think this is going to have be the next upgrade.

The Sunday races seen me struggle with confidence on corner entry and I had 2x3rds and a 4th (this was after starting at the back of the grid after crashing) in class, I'm still holding 2nd in the clubman championship tho. What became obvious tho is the clubman's (I read this as being a novice in racing) aren't true clubmans with many years racing experience but 'choose' to race in this class as they can run at the front which I don't think is in the spirit of things and I think Knockhill need to look at the rules for this.

Positives from the weekend were I managed to hold and gain places off the starting line and with confidence I was managing to run near the front with what is a far inferior bike in comparison to what I'm racing against. I came home on Sunday night feeling a little deflated with how it went but I need to remind myself that was only my second weekend of racing.

I'm hoping over the next couple weeks to get a bit of cash together to get the forks looked at, whether I get just get springs put in or get them revalved at the same time I'm unsure of but the front end was for sure holding me back.

Cheers :2up

Good stuff Darren. No need to be disappointed, that's a fantastic start to racing.

As for the costs of changing the valves or the springs, yuo better get used to it. As you get faster it'll be something else. ;)

Keep up the good work. :2up

I would be tempted for springs and valves. Same as what's in my track bike.
No need to spend the extra on full internals.

Was a bummer falling in race 2. But good there was only damage to the plastics and not much else. Slowest part of the track so that was a saviour.

Did seem to be more quick riders there at the weekend.
Was bloody scortchio as well. No doubt it will be pissing rain for this weekends BSB.

Was also good to meet Dickie, and also see Craig racing as well.
Wee Pedro loved it and told all the teachers at his nursery his pal crashed his motorbike.

:2up Good to meet you too. Hopefully see you again next time.

I had a fairly good weekend by my own standards, still along way back of Craig in the Lightweights though but a definite improvement. My next meet is with the Melville club at East Fortune on the 6th and 7th of July.
