Bloody brake calipers

Post by al »

I rebuilt the front calipers on the bike in 2021 and haven't used the bike much since then so throught a quick inspection and clean would be all they needed for the next wee while. No such luck it would seem.

Whipped the pads out, quick squirt of brake cleaner and inspected the pistons only to see the usual signs of swelling in the dust deals. A quick squeeze of the brake lever to moke the pistons out slightly confirmed the worst.

Rebuild kit now ordered for all calipers so hopefully get that done at the weekend along with the service so the bike will be good to go for the rest of the year.

Service completed along with a full strip and rebuild of the rear caliper. Just some new pads to go in the rear and that will be that one complete.

The front calipers are fine for the time being but I have the rebuild kits for them ready to go. The front system can be a bugger to bleed so I'll G-spot that in for an appropriate time when I can take my time with those.

New chain and sprockets are next on the list. The chain and rear spocket look servicable but have been on the bike for a while so going to fit the full kit for peace of mind.
