Check out this page, is your rectifier like this one. A lot are very similar. It might give you some ideas.

http://www.powersportsnetwork.com/acces ... 127136.htm
Sorry about the stupid long link :oops

This page gives some basic electrical checks and explains them pretty well. Rectifier is about half way down the page.

Hope this helps

From what I saw on Monday, I still think it's the reg/rec. If it was a direct short, then battery would heat up all the time. It only does it when it's running, so it has to do with the output from the alternator.

See if you can get/borrow a reg/rec from breaking point as we discussed. Even if it's the wrong one, it should work long enough to confirm my story.

Did you call Electrex yet? Maybe if CCM could confirm the spec on your reg/rec, they could give you another to match.

Good luck.

If the lights only come on when you apply the brake then I would suspect that it is a similar problem to the one I had last week with a dodgy rear tail/brake bulb, you know, the two fillament type.

A strange short had occured on one of the bulbs that was doing strange things with the lights including making the side light and rear tail light come on when you applied the brake.

If you have two rear bulbs then try them in one at a time and see if that makes a difference. If there is no change then see if you can get a new one out of halfords and see if that changes anything.

Scotty, I think you need to come at this from a different angle.

Sit down and think about what it coule be. Electrics are relatively simple things and follow a couple of rules.

In cases like this it is about trial and error but apply some method to your madness - otherwise you might screw even more on the bike.

If it wasn't doing this before it was nicked I'd concentrate on what was done then i.e. ignition circuit screwed. Once you have that all rewired absolutely correctly you can then try other things.

I'd agree with Gazza, if it only does it when the engine is running it's likely to be the reg/rect.

Are you sure that the little poo's didn't do anything like put the wrong fuse in somewhere?

The problems with lights etc might not be linked, it could just be a blown bulb/fuse.

Take it one step at a time and try and rule things out one at a time so you can narrow it down. Keep in mind though that there could be more than one problem.

I'd also pay more attention to your posts if you used the occasional capital letter and full stop - much easier to read. Paragraphs can also come in useful!
