I'm going to need a couple of jobbies done and just wanting some advice.

Need to put crash bungs on bike, anyone any good at cutting the fairing? Is it easy enough or can it all go wrong easily?

Also need to change the shock, is this an easy task or am i better to book it in to be done?

I fitted crash bungs to my Beemer and it takes a bit of nerve to stick the holesaw through the fairing. 'Measure twice, cut once' as the saying goes. I can lend you holesaws, I've got the sizes you're likely to need. Or I could fit them for you.

I wouldn't be able to do the shock though, don't have the right stands and things. An impact wrench is always handy too. Ask whoever you get to fit the shock if they fancy doing the bungs too. If they don't, I'll do them.

Seriously though, if it is standard body panels with factory paint then you should have no trouble. Just keep measuring and sizing up the job till you are 100% the whole is marked in the correct place; use a small drill to make a pilot hole and again offer the panel back up and use a small punch or nail that will fit in the pilot hole to check the hole lines up; get a decent hole cutter then drill the biggie, take you time and let the drill do the work, no need for exerting any pressure on the panel.

I fitted parking sensors to my van the other week and it was a similar thing where you have to cut through painted plastic. Just mark up the panel with masking tape before hand.

If the hole on the frame is big enough to take a small pen or crayon then you can put one in the hole (fnarr fnarr) then offer the panel up and it should mark the back of the panel at the location where the hole should go.

easy jobs

Fitted R&G ones to the R1 a few months back.
What i did was
Put bike on paddock stand
Removed side fairings
Set up laser level to point at the centre of the engine mounting bolt
Replaced fairings and where the level was pointing i drilled
Just make sure you dont knock the level while replacing the fairings

now that seems like the best way to do it

But u have enough problems with yer bike battery charger min can u handle a laser level :O

Any sparkies onboard ? I've got a garage where I have lighting but no power.... anyone know how to tap off the power for the light to put in a socket so I can use an optimate ?

Where is the power for the light fed from?
You can't use lighting circuits for heavy electrical loads, the wiring is a thinner gauge and will not take the load.

No idea... I just have a light in my garage and dont pay for it Just thought there must be a power supply coming from somewhere so can maybe tap into it ?? The optimate wouldn't use that much would it ??
