A couple of days ago I noticed a rattle coming from the back of my bike. I tried riding at low speeds along long carparks so I could get a look at what was making the noise but couldn't see anything. After stopping the bike and looking several times I think I have found it.

This is a zoomed out picture, the red circle is the first picture underneath, the blue the second:





You can see in the red pic the chain is rubbing the metal leg (or whatever that bit is called) which is actually wearing it down. I imagin this isn't a good thing since if that leg is getting worn down the chain will be getting worn aswell.

The second picture shows a little further up the chain there is a bit of rubber padding under the chain, should this extend right down to where it's rubbing? Anyone know if this is ok or should be looked at?

I'm pretty sure someone else on here has a Kaiser XTR, care to check what yours is like and let me know?

Looks like you either have a knackered chain that is stretching or you need to properly adjust the chain. Note that overtightening the chain can knacker it when the suspension compresses.

If you have a rear paddock stand then get it up on that and rotate the back wheel checking the slack in the bottom of the chain. Do this every couple of inches on the chain at the same locaton (where your hand is in relationship to the bike) for the full lenght of the chain and see if there is any noticable difference in how much slack you feel (pull the chain fully down and then push it up as far as it will go and the difference between the two extemes is the slack). If the amount of slack you have in the chain varies then the chain is stretching at one point.

If there is no stretching then it is most likely due to impropper adjustment. The wee sticker on your chain guard will give you the recommended amount of slack the chain must have.

Was thinking to myself is it not missing a chainguide? Mite be an idea to look for the same model 2 c if its got any bits missing. Thot mine was fooked till i realised it had slackened off so much wi not being maintained properly n was rubbing on the main stand! Other prob wi mine is the bit that holds that stand down a bit off the exhaust had bn cut off due to the jack up kit on it!

The 1200 bandit jack-up kit only affects the suspension dog bones, it shouldn't affect the exhaust at all.

Nah thats out the front! maybe the last owner thot it was a saftey feature coz the chain rubs along the main stand seems the stops been cut off. Saves tightening up a the time
