Eurosport loses MotoGP coverage

Post by Sherpa »

Worst news of the w/e was that Eurosport has lost MotoGP coverage after 2008. :(

This is fine if you need the BBC to explain to you every week that MotoGP bikes are 800cc and that James Toseland can tickle the ivories pretty well or you simply enjoy watching Suzi Perry flick her hair.

This is not fine if you enjoy the informed, involved and witty offerings of Julian Ryder and Toby Moody. Sure, Ryder is an anorak and Moody gets a bit Murray Walker-esque at times but they are one of the best commentary duos on any sport. Add to that the presence of Randy Mamola in the pits who has the authority to walk straight into Valentino's garage after he's fallen off and ask him about it. In contrast, BBC's foppish boy-band style roving reporter Isn't much cop is he?

Moody and Ryder have been doing it brilliantly for years and Eurosport (despite their unconventional programme timing) have brought us live practice/qualifying/warm-up/125s and 250s to delight the cognoscenti among us.

Sure, the Beeb's coverage has improved (albeit at the expense of WSB) but how good would it be if Toseland wasn't there?

shizzle!

I hope we will still get to see it over here? Bad enough missing out on all the rest without the GP's too.

And before anybody mentions downloading etc, you need a decent bandwith for that. :evil

Decent bandwidth simply not available over here, however much you have. £100 per month is supposed to provide 1Mb. No way. Lucky if it's faster than dial up. :roll

I know, I know. I just enjoy winding you up about it. You're so smug about everything else over there it's good that my connection runs a whole bunch faster.

So gutted Eurosport have lost the contract for next year, absolutely hate BBC2 and will miss Ryder, Moody and Mamola :(

Seems to be the general consensus, wonder if we could have a protest run to Dorna :log

BBC coverage is all i have, as freeview just likes to turn into blocks of FAILED digital doom.

We don't have sky at ours as dad thinks its too expensive for what you get (an d i have to say i agree) and what with no WSB or BSB :angryfire :angryfire , on telly, BBC is all i have for my 2 wheeled televised enjoyment.

The BBC are only interested because there's a few Brits starting to show their heads in GPs.

I remember them taking WSB off Sky Sports in 2000 for a similar reason, when Foggy won the title for the second year running. He crashed in the 2nd round at Phillip island and ended his racing career. Viewing figures dropped like a stone :log

Probably just BBC.

Dorna want the races to be shown on more free-to-air channels across Europe. But it would not surprise me if they sell the rights to Sky for more cash.
