is it possible to change the regular speedo/rev clocks over on my J2 zx6 to digital like the newer bikes? or would there be further wiring to be done?

Difficult I'd say. Presumably it's a mechanical speedo drive with a traditional style speedo. IME digital speedos (could be a new fashion craze for the pool) pick up the number of wheel revolutions by a magnetic pulse. My Mille, for example, picks up the magnetic field of the rear brake disc bolts and uses the number of 'pulses' to work out how fast your going. Not saying it's impossible, but it's not something I've ever seen done.

Done this to mrs meeps zx7r. Bit of pissing about and aftermarket digi speedos are not the most accurate.
However if you mean can you swap the old speedo for a new one from an 08 zx6r....fook knows mate.

You can get digital speedo's designed for fitting to 'crossers, they usually have small magnets which can be fitted into the brake disc mounting bolts to trigger the magnetic pulses. They can be programmed to show speed, gear indication, shift lights, rev counter, voltage, temps, etc.
A friend fitted one to his bike recently and he was fair chuffed with it.
Some of the higher end push bike speedos are good enough quality to be used too, but i haven't spoken to anybody who has done this.

If you want a look at an 07 zx6r wiring then you're welcome to see mine..... just don't break it!
My garage isn't as warm as shirlaws either!
I'm sure MCNNinjas have the service manuals too if that would shed any light.

If you don't see your bike in the list, relax - you can still install a regular MXL or MyChron3 system on your bike, however you'll need to install sensors to measure things like RPM, temp, pressure, throttle and a do a little more wiring.
Couple of tie-wraps and a bit of blue tack should cover it.
