I'd second the helicoil/recoil option too now that the stud is flush.On the way to fitting an insert I'd attempt to remove the original stud and clean up the thread.If you concentrate on drilling it out centrally you should be able to recover the thread,your going to have to drill up to that size and more to fit an insert ,so nothing ventured nothing gained.If you drill slightly undersize , you should be able to pick out the remainder of the stud.Ps good quality sharp drills and spot on centre.Good luck.

Spent the afternoon working on the bike. Successfully drilling out the bolt and managed to carefully clean up the threads with a tap.
Result!
