Bike training DVD's

Hey folks,

since getting the VFR I have not been out on it too much but when I have its mainly been out near oldmeldrum, Alford, Inverurie.
I seem to be getting more and more confident at slow speeds and straight lines but cornering is something that I am not great at. I know this will come in time and experience and I am going to look at further training but in the meantime and with the fact we just bought a new car I have been reading online that you can get 3 DVD's as well.

A Street, a Track, an Open Road", "Great Roads, Great Rides" and "Police Advanced Riding Techniques"

does anyone have any of these that I could borrow or anything similar?

I might have the great roads great rides one. I got sent it when I sent off for think bike stickers (free). Its very basic though. All you need is practice, better to go in slow, and get it right then build it up. Go out on some novice ride outs loads of people will give you pointers. ( I wish my bike worked )

Sign up for bike safe, first date is this sunday for £20, join the IAM for about £100 or get advanced training from the likes of Keith Henderson. I'm sure anything would be money well spent.

I'll try to remember the sites where the DART training sildes are and i'm sure one of the IAM groups down south had a dvd for a couple of quid.

Get out on runs, sit behind some of the more experienced riders, watch and learn. I've learnt sooo much following the likes of pervy pixie and I think it was Zax and a few others. Just don't get fixated on their exact lines, if they go off you follow

I've got the 'street track open road' DVD, got it free when I bought a new Suzi. . .

You're welcome to borrow it but I'd highly doubt that you'll learn much from it.

As has been said, get your arse out on a few runs and follow some lines!

Better still, phone Keith Henderson and spend some time on the road with him.

I would say that the spoken word, face to face, and the ability to ask questions is a greatest way to learn.

Some magazine writers tell you how to of shave 1/10th of a second off taking a corner on public roads, in my view this is not good.
The track is the only place that the corners are close to textbook, but even then the track can change from lap to lap.


On the road every corner is different.

Doing the same road every day, the same corners change character daily.
Moisture, flat bunnies, oil/diesel, moving bunnies, grit, mud and Bambi all find their on to “the prefect textbook line”, so you need to change from the text book to the real world.

For me, the perfect line is any line that I don’t scare myself or anyone else with.


Don’t forget, when you are following someone, their line will be different from your line, as they will have a different bike (or setup) and they will be doing things differently, ie leaning, counter steering, throttle control, speed and gear on entering the corner.
And also, they might have cockedup their line on that particular corner you are watching them on.


As noted by lots of others, get out there and put some miles on the bike and in your head.

If you can afford it, get additional training. Keith has a tremendous manner about the way he explains things. I am sure there are other trainers out there, but Keith is the only one that I know off and would recommend for giving further training.

Keep doing what you are doing with this thread, ask questions and enter into discussions.

Don’t assume anything, and don’t assume that just because an experienced rider says something, that it is relevant to you or is correct.


The only advice that I feel qualified to give is:
“Be able to stop in the distance you can see”
The world keeps turning and everything else keeps changing.

I know I need to get the miles in, just knowing where to go, correction its the getting home again I can't believe it's not butter!! And I have no intention of being stupid and pushing my limits at least my heads there

What would Keith normally charge and where is he based, does he work in one the bike shops?
