Donington Park fails track inspection,no racing licence (yet) for troubled East Midlands circuit.

DONINGTON PARK failed an inspection by the Motor Sport Association yesterday.
The Association said that four minor health and safety issues have to be addressed before it would clear the troubled track to hold a race meeting there.

Another inspection is due today (Friday); a spokesman for the track said that they were confident that the works would be carried out without delay.

Donnington have had a fair bit of problems with their restructuring , and financing agreements in order to host F1 in 2010 .

Have you seen what theyve done? No wonder it failed. God knows what they were thinking when the built that underpass.

What, you mean about having to ride the 1st 2 sessions at 130mph through Coppice over dirt? Aye, was a bit pissed off!

10 guys, 10 brushes and half a days work would sort it, it's not as bad as they're making out. IMHO.

Have they not built an underpass on the straight leading up to Coppice that has resulted in the barriers being brought in toward the track? see photos in link below. Theyve lost a lot of money from cancelled races already.

There were temporary barriers right at the trackside, didn't notice the position of "proper" ones. It was all the earth moving equipment that had been on track in the morning that were causing us issues. On one lap the bucket of a JCB was hanging over the temp barrier above the track, that was a strange experience!

British Superbikes given the go-ahead for next weekend's race

THE DONINGTON PARK round of the BSB championship has finally been given the go-ahead for next weekend after a track inspection by the series organisers and governing body.
The news puts to rest recent speculation that the financially-hit track was not going to be ready to host the big bike round, and that the BSB championship would be forced to hold the Monday raceday at Cadwell Park instead.

In a statement from the BSB bosses, they said: The Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board (MCRCB) inspected Donington Park circuit on Friday and has granted a track licence ahead of the scheduled third round of the 2009 ViSK British Superbike Championship in association with Pirelli on May 23/24/25.

The inspection was necessary following recent structural modifications as part of the circuit's Formula 1 Grand Prix project.

The inspection team of MCRCB Chairman, Dennis Carter, and MCRCB Safety Delegate, Norman Williamson, confirmed to BSB Race Director Stuart Higgs that, following the recent extensive remedial works carried out by Donington Park, the circuit is acceptable and an event permit will now be issued to series organisers, MSVR.

Jonathan Palmer, Chief Executive of BSB Commercial and Organisational rights holder MSVR said: "I am pleased that MCRCB has been able to grant the necessary licence and permit, and with the BSB championship producing some of the closest racing ever in 2009 we can now look forward to an exciting next round at Donington over the Bank Holiday weekend."
