Potential problem...
I have grounded the bob with some sprited riding. The underside of the exhaust cover is carbon steel and had a huge scrape down it's entire length. I masked it off and used a couple of coats of gloss black hammerite.
Is it likely to run/melt/catch fire?
Should I sand it out and reapply something else?
It's an exhaust cover that site between 6-10mm of the pipe.

Hi Lance i would Read the hammerite label and see what temprature it is good for .
Personally i would have used the Heat resistance paint .

label does not specify temprature limits.
Thinking about removing it and starting again. Just ondered if anyone has done the same and gotten away with it.
Checked the hamerite website, and again specification of heat resistance not evident

I've used gloss black hammerite on the rear drum breaks on my car in the past. What I found was it tended to go dull over time with the heat.

dull is OK... only a short term fix... just concerned about fire

No-one could do the same Lance as no-one else has a Harley.
Sits back and waits for the returning and extremely justified insult!!

You could, at one time, get engine paint which would be heat resistant. I've used it to spruce up an old XT500 a few years ago.

Leave it and see what happens. If it burns rub it down and apply some proper extra-high temperature paint.
It'll be underneath where nobody can see anyway (unless you let Rowan ride it).

Doubt it, but if it did you could post pictures of the foot and see if anybody gave a shizzle.

Or you could cover your exhaust pipe in leather to make it look like a scabbard and stick a claymore up then end. I believe highland dress on cruisers is in fashion at the moment!

Lance thinks a Claymore is a platform in the North Sea. Perhaps you should offer some tips about Morris Dancing gear, then he would understand.

Be careful what you say about the Morris men. You may end up being whalloped with a hanky

Now there's an idea!
Have you thought about getting the shield ceramic coated (black)?
I got a quote for coating part of an exhaust a while back & it was surprisingly cheap (£30)!
May be worth checking out if you want a longer term solution.

A speed limiter tied into an inclinometer should do the trick!

That is well off topic...having the Claymore platform in the same discussion as paint
The Claymore has not seen any paint in a great number of years
