Lo all,

Bike passed with an advisory for one blown bulb (as I drove to the station :oops ) and the front bearings being rough.

Can someone tell me what I need to buy? If there is anything else I should be replacing while I have the wheel off?

And lastly best place to get them?

Its a 2000 VFR 800 FI

cheers

Kev

Replace the dust seals at the same time,

Pry the old seals out with a big screw driver. Drift out the old bearings, clean the hole up, light coat of copper slip and tap the new bearing in with one of the old bearings and a hammer or mallet. Line up and tap the new dust seals in with one of the old wheel bearings and a hammer or mallet.

Clean the wheel spacers and grease then lightly, then reverse them so that the new seal is not running in the same groove that was cut by the old dust seals.

I do not mean put the LHS spacer on the right side of the wheel and the RHS spacer on the left side of the wheel. ;) Just want to make that quite clear.

Honda dealer will have them in stock, pretty sure they are the same as the older Blades, CBR 600's, NC30 and NC35.

I have a large beetroot jar full of them and dust seals, John Silvers (google it) had them on special a few years ago, genuine Honda parts for less than Pattern (and all nicely sealed in little Honda plastic bags to keep them fresh) Next day delivery too.

Excellent guys!

IZINBARD :2up :2up :2up :2up for the heads up, I wil get everything and do the lot, might look at the back as well seeing as I have no idea when they were done.

Great thing about the VFR, center stand!

If I can get the Honda ones I will go with them. I wil call scott bearings and check out wemoto for prices tomorrow.

Thanks again chaps

Don't forget to check with Dave Silver. They are very good with cheap, original Honda parts.

These are for:- the VFR800FI1 2001, closest I could find to what you called your bike but not a 2000.

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_63467/ Dust seal £6.50 each. 2 required.

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_63469/ Front wheel bearing £8.50 each. 2 required.

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_63415/ Swing arm needle roller bearing £9.50 each 2 required.

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_63413/ Swing arm pivot ball bearing £7.25 each 2 required.

£56.25 for front wheel and rear suspension bearings and seals.

Might as well go the whole hog. If the wheel bearings are shot, there is a good chance that the steering stem bearings are on the way out too, daft not to do them if the swing arm and front bearings are to be done anyway. All 3 will effect the handling. It is an easy job to do if the wheel is off already. Just whip the tank off or up if it is hinged and hang the bike from the garage roof by a ratchet strap warped round the frame rails where they joint the casting for the steering stem.

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_63412/ Steering stem top dust seal £2.75 one required.

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_63411/ Top and bottom steering stem bearing set £29.00 one required.

http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/part_63410/ Lower steering stem dust seal £4.50 one required.

£36.25 for the Steering stem bearings.

£93.00 all in for the bits. :biggrin2

I've got a few new bits sitting in my garage for a 2003 VTR 1000.

If it's the same bits for your VFR (which it's reasonably likely to be) then you're welcome to them.

There's definitely new Honda wheel bearings, dust seals, roller bearings & a giant bolt but not sure what else.

Let me know if they're any use to you. :2up
