Its looking like pad change time (just seen Zax's new pads and realised how worn mine are) :eek
Sintered, carbon lorrane, or EBC green stuff (or any other suggestions), whats the difference? and what would folks reccomend for a 1200 bandit??
cheers folks.

EBC sintered pads are good but as with ANY high performance pad they will cause more wear on the disc. You would do better to stick with ome pads and fit braided hoses.

fair enough, its allready got braided hoses (common mod for bandits, yep they're that good).
i was just going with the idea that i might as well get whats better for a similar price.

I take it that the extra wear is cos of the extra heat/friction generated?

i've allready changed the fluid for some that dosent resemble fizzy pop, so thats made the biggest difference.

ahh the joys.......

the Carbon Loraine pads along with the braded lines and brake fluid that does not look like expresso coffee makes a huge differance .

I know that it will take a little time for them to bed in but it will be well worth it .

did you get your zorst back ....????

Got some standard pads today, going with the idea that discs are 160 quid each and i'll not be going that fast anyway........ honest........

Glad to hear someone listens to my advice :2up

Another factor to be considered is quality control. VERY important where brakes are concerned. Did hear of one case with Carbon Lorraine where the pad came off the carrier.

Another thing worth keeping in mind when going for after market pads as apposed to OEM ones is that the OEM pads are designed to complement the callipers in both material and dimentions.

Bob can testify to the grooves that the EBC pads ended up making in the front callipers of my VTR :eek

just found out that the pad retaining bolt is made of toffee. bugger.

so it looks like i'll have to split the caliper to get it out.........

later i think. :(

That wouldn't by any change be your rear calliper????

cant be bothered just now, i'll go back out to the garage when i've calmed down. :disbelief

That never happens with an *onda mate :P

Bit late for you, but I always put a dab of copper slip on my bolts. I know that you are supposed to put on lock tight, but ......... then you canna get the fuking things off. I had one hell of a job to get the sump plug out after McGowans serviced my last bike. I had to use an extension on the tommy bar and then fit a new plug.

yup after the replacement of roughly half of the bolts that i've ever taken out of the bike everything gets copperslip!
suzuki seem to have got a good deal on the worlds cheapest bolts......
everything self destructs when removed, even down to the wee allen headed things that hold on the front mudgaurd, let alone exaust studs......

on a slightly (well actually very) different topic

don't know if you are aware of this one speedaddictedberk but suzuki fitted a connector to the bandit that retards the ignition in first and second gear, disconnect it!!!!

it's underneath the left-hand side panel and has one green and blue wire and one red and black one.

this fools the bike into thinking it is in 3rd and you get quicker power delivery in first and second, as you have changed the front sprok (like me) to a 14tooth one this will only add to the fun, makes it sooooooooooo easy to get the front end up from lights etc... pity i can't wheelie but watchin my mate put the bandit through it's paces is impressive....

if you don't like it just plug it back in takes all of about 30seconds to do...

best of luck!!!

If yer canna wheelie a 1200 Bandit, there really is no hope 4 you :roll

its more like climbing over the front to keep the wheel down for steering thats the problem!!!!!!! :boing
its allready been disconnected, took the bike round the block today (with old pads in), bloody hell! kinda picks up faster with the smaller sprocket dosent it?
wheelies accross roundabouts etc straight away......

almost fast now.

giggling muppet?? me??

and watching zax almost fall off the back was proper funny (before mods) :2up :2up :2up :2up

how'd you get on with the high level pipe by the way?

I am only glad that i had a dark visor on ..!!! :oops

Shocked at how fast the front wheel came up is an understatement .!! :eek

cant wait to get another go now it is fitted with a rocket sprocket ..!!

u talkin to me about the hi level?

it's fitted... looks ok but not happy about level of attachment... i.e. need another strap thing around the can as one doesn't appear sufficient. The one i have is for my old round can and the current one is oval and a bit bigger, will get round to it at some point....

yeah the 14tooth front sprock is the way to go... unfort if you don't have a scotty oiler it will eat yer chain... other option is to put a rear sprok with 2 extra teeth on, heard this is the best compromise.... yeah with the K&N filter, 14tooth sprock, delimited and race can it comes up a dream... i have no problem getting it up (ooer) i just love the bike too much to try wheelieing as i don't want to drop her.....

My 2p's worth...several of the mags have done tests on pads..and all of them, without fail, have said that for normal everyday riding, including weekend pranks, stick with OE pads. Most of the high performance pads like Carbon Lorraine, HH sintered pads etc only started to out perform at high, constant temperatures (track day etc).

Ypu pay ya money......

thinking that trackdays with a 1200 bandit would be interesting, might find its limits fairly quickly though......

mines got a scottoiler too (yup i'm lazy), i'll keep an eye on the chain as i snapped the last one! :eek lucky enough for it to hit almost nothing as it fell out the back though :I can't believe it's not butter!

i've not had any probs with the standard pads on the road, even chasing zax, which is about as fast as i generally go anyway.......

and yes, i too try not to wheelie too much, after thinking its in 2nd and winding it right open off the exibition centre roundabout, found out i was actually in first as i got a really good look at the sky..........
then shifted perfectly into neutral to complete the manouver :oops :oops

i think she might be a bit of a handful on the track if it's standard suspension set up, i've changed mine to hagon all round but even then i will reach my own limits way before the bike... and like my last post would only do it on a hired bike, wouldn't want to drop mine
