I need a new computer for one of my lads
Use, a wee bit of study and a sh1t load of gaming
Any recommendations?

Desktop or laptop?
If you are no good with computer stuff go to Dell and spac up an 'Alienware' system.

Sigh @ Big Kneed Al (master of the emergency stop & "stand up" comedian).
It also depends on what games they want to play.
In general laptops are about 30% higher price for same spec and not easily upgradable.
However these days a good spec machine will last several years, so upgrading is not such an issue.
Have a look at Alienware X51 series. Don't forget to add the cost of peripherals. No point in having a good system and plugging it into a cr*p mouse / keyboard / monitor.
And it needs to be hardwired, no wireless for gaming.

Alienware machine ordered and in the post
He has the gaming keyboard and mouse already…they feking cost more that entry level computers

I know this breaks the wireless rule, but it means you can walk around without ripping your head off
For the more budget minded. Almost as good as the Steelseries set in terms of sound quality.
