Why this thread?
This may help with planning a wee local run, or stick in your mind if on an impromptu run then feel a bit peckish.
Below is a list of recommended (or not) locations that a rider can be topped up, ie fish+chip shops, decent coffee shops etc
Please post up if you can add a recommendation, and someone will update the list below.
Likewise, if there is an establishment you cannot recommend, post up adding your reason why.
Alford: Bistro: Coffee, cakes, food, beer.
Opening hours: MT 9-5, WT 9-8, FS 9-9, Sun 10-8

Alford: Frank's Fryer : Fish+chips. FryerMain car park opposite GTM.
It has been reported that sometimes the quality of the frying is not the best, resulting in not so crispy batter, but the chips always seem to be good.
Opening hours: tbc
Note: There is a public toilet in the main carpark.
Ballater: The Bothy : Coffee, cakes, food.
Opening hours: Monday - Sunday 9-5

Ballater: Phoenix: Fish+chips :
Opening hours: Tuesday - Sunday 4.30 - 9
Note: The Phoenix has a room next door (not table service) when once you get your food from the counter you can grab a table…very handy if the weather is not so good. There is also a toilet that customers can use, which is not that common for a take away establishment.

NOT Recommended in Ballater: La Mangiatoia : Italian restaurant.
Reason for not recommending: During 2015 a group of bikers were not served coffee/drinks, we asked to take the coffee outside just like last time, but no “because La Mangiatoia is a restaurant not a café†was the reply. That p1ssed me off as in previous years they were happy to serve just coffee and drinks to bikers.
Braemar: The Bothy : Coffee, cakes, food.
Opening hours: MTWTF 9-5.30, SS 9-6

Dinnet : Loch Kinord Hotel : Coffee, food, beer
Opening hours: ?? probably 9 - 11 pm or more !
I recommend the Loch Kinord for their friendliness towards bikers and willingness to serve (only filter coffee, not bad but nothing to jump up and down about), plus it seems to be open most times I ride past. It has outdoor seating, which is great as you don’t need to take off all the biking kit when having a quick pit stop.

Dufftown: D J Chippie: Fish+chips
Opening hours: T 4.30-9 , W 4.30-8 9-8, TFSS 4.30-9
Mintlaw: Fish+chips.
Opening hours: tbc
Torphins: Platform 22: Coffee, cakes, (food ?), beer.
Opening hours: MTW 10-5 , Thurs 10-8, FS 10-9, Sun 12-8

Guidelines:
Generally speaking the times posted above are the times displayed at the premises or online, BUT these times above are more like "guidelines", for example "Platform 22" is licenced to 10pm and the owner said that they often stay open later if they are busy or can remain open if prearranged. She was telling me this after 6pm on a Monday, well after the posted "closed" time, I just happened to be passing and noticed the lights were on and it looked open, so I stopped, the staff were just finishing up but the coffee machine was recently turned off, so they switch it back on and made me a coffee. What a very nice place !
Cafe's and hotels will have toilets available for use, the majority of take-a-way establishments don't, but if that are known to have toilets that customers can use then this is mentioned in the recommendation ie the Phoenix in Ballater.
Please note that the author of this post is not liable for confirming that any of the eating shops noted above will be open, or will have the correct type of liquids/solids you require or that any Local Shop will serve non-local people.
ie, don’t blame me if you are stuck out in the boonies, getting hungry/thirsty, looking at a closed food shop and fearing that the local people living near the Local Shop will hunt you down to boil up your flesh to fill the shelves in the food shop.
Biker Friendly: Decent fish+chips/coffee shops open during weekday evenings.

As some of you know, I often have issues with my navigational system and often take the long route home.
One of the reason for the “petrol shop†thread…is the need to feed the bike on the way home.

While going home last night I realised that a thread to “feed the rider†might be a good idea

There is a decent chipper in the main carpark in Alford. Also if out Mintlaw way the chipper there is good and also has a large carpark.
