Yamaha XSR900 = what a handsome bike

Post by Dave »

My FJR is getting a few things done, suspension returned to standard, new tyres etc.
Those nice lads at Ecosse have given me a XSR900 as a loan bike.

XSR900, what a nice bike it is.
I think is looks great. There are a number of wee details I especially like: the off centre fuel cap and the multifunction "gauge".
The riding position and bars make it very manoeuvrable and fun in the city and thru the twisties.
Engine is smooth.

The only neutral comment from me is the noise...its too much like a sewing machine, but that is the same with most new bikes with standard cans

The latest Euro regulations for bikes mean they need to be virtually silent. No more rattly Ducati clutches and the like.

The XSR900 is very pretty. The same can't be said for its little brother IMHO.

Big Kneed Al (master of the emergency stop & "stand up" comedian).

Looks nice, but is it better than the old FZ1?

Didn't like it when I sat on one at the Scottish bike show, scallops on the tank were not enough for the length of my legs.

Lovely looking machine though

To be fair about XSR, it is not a FZ1 replacement, that will be the MT10....which i have no intention of trying
