I've just fitted one and in the pack there is a rubber fitting to go round the edges. I want to know what the practical reason for it is because it's ugly when it's on the bike and I would prefer not to have it fitted unless there is a genuine reason for leaving it on. Can anyone advise me?

i left mine off (cos it looked cack) then just smoothed the top of the screen.
no idea why you'd want to fit it though.

Maybe it's to stop you slitting your throat under heavy braking.

Mine went flying off when I was riding at xxx mph, looks much nicer without it anyway

I would say the screen could cut you badly if you hit it at speed, probably an attempt as saving your good looks

Left mine off also. Can only think it's a safety issue. Looks like crap IMHO even on a heavy black tint

It's purely cosmetic. Leave it off if you hate it. You can get transparent edging too.
I wouldn't worry about cutting yourself on it Karlos. If you come off at speed - you'll have a whole bunch more to be worrying about than that. Believe me!

Hey, why worry about what you can't control

If your not keen on it leave it off.
you can clean up the edge of the screen with a bit of wet and dry if your not happy with the finish.
