Chains and sprockets

Been looking at my bike and I have noticed what appears to considerable wear on my rear sprocket. I replaced the original with a plain Renthal item after about 400miles and the bike has now done 4000miles.

The leading face of the teeth have wear and there is a small lip on the edge of the teeth where the metal has deformed.

I did 2000miles in the last two weeks as far as I can tell the chain was not too tight, the wheels is aligned and it was lubed every 500-600 miles.

Anybody got any idea on why? Ive used Renthal in the past with no probelms.

Also if I now put the original sprocket back on will I cause undue wear on my chain?

4000 miles is probably about right for a Renthal hard anodised alloy sprocket , you can't expect it to last as long as a steel one

Its just the plain one, not hard anodised. TBH I dont think Ive kept a bike long enough to put that mileage on a Renthal.

Why did you change when it was so new?

As missile said, always change chain and sprockets as a set.

A worn / stretched chain will wear out a new sprocket far quicker than normal wear and tear.

Was looking to go up one or two of teeth on the back and ordered a standard size at the same time. Even with one tooth up I couldnt get the axle spindle back in so sent the other sprockets back and put the standard size on.
