Chains - rivet or masterlink

Replacing the chain and sprockets on my bike soon and I was wondering peoples opinions on the best method to secure the chain.
I have done this in the past but used the agricultural method of two hammers.
What exactly does the rivet method do?

A riveter does pretty much the same result as the two hammer method, but a little easier. Two hammers is perfectly adequate, IF done correctly.
I would never use a split link on anything more powerful than a moped

Funny beacuse most of the supermoto boys run masterlink clips and Ive been told they dont have any problems.
Suppose a 100bhp+ bike is a little different to a 50bhp bike though.

In my younger day I used master link too. There really ought not be any difference as the clip is not under any stress, but having seen the result of a broken chain .........
I would suggest the supermoto boys might need the convenience of a master link for changing sprockets

Mmmm, interesting. Not exactly sure how that works but might be worth a try. Pretty expensive for just one link though.

Spose, they are twice the price for a standard rivet type link but are re-usable, most master links are around the 3 - 5 quid mark. The more you buy the cheaper they get.

Just had a look at the link, both pins have a small bore which I presume would be belled out using the normal tool. I have a centre punch that fits perfectly into these so I reckon Im gonna go with using that.
OR does anyone have a riveter I could borrow?
Tsubaki chain by the way.

How is it re-usable? If you have to tighten then snap of the rest of the stud(bit like a normal blind rivet) then surely you cannot re-use?
Looks the dogs dangly bits though for ease of use!.

Simple, file the end flush with the nut, that way it won't bugger up the thread when you back it out,

Thats pretty much the same price in pounds as the other one was in Euros isint it. Himmm well not quite. 6.0520euro tuther one was 8 euro.
