Parrafin is quite effective and wont affect the o rings on the chain.
After winter i go to the garage, take off the trickle charger and fire it up (still clean from last year). If it goes out on salty roads it gets washed and dried when i get home.

Would WD-40 do the trick?

Wouldn't recommend it Grant.

Stick to paraffin, kerosene or diesel.

Or even better - get a Scottoiler.

I use those disposable gloves when doing the oily bits as saves spending ages getting oil/grease etc of yer hands. If you only want a small pack Asda sell them in the decorating isle.
