Fork Seals

One of my forks has traces of oil on the shiny bit at the top which I assume is the fork seals. It was serviced recently and he said it would be about £70-£80 to have it sorted. I know a guy who has a garage and he says he'll do it for £20 if I get the parts.
Here's 4 questions:
How easy is it to do it myself?
What parts/tools do I need?
Should I just pay to get it done properly?
How does this affect my handling?

Here's 4 questions:
How easy is it to do it myself? Not difficult, messy, but not difficult.
What parts/tools do I need? New seals, plus dust caps (you might as well), relevant spanners to get the forks off the bike, probably an allen key to get the stantions out of the forks. Some sort of slide hammer to seat the new seals (a roll of lead will do) and new fork oil.
Should I just pay to get it done properly? If you have the cash yes, its a crap job.
How does this affect my handling? it'll go bouncy castle and unpredictable if the forks are leaking at different rates.

Just pay to get it done properly (assuming the guy knows what he's doing). 20 squid is very cheap. As per Speedaddictberk, it's a pretty shitty job.

Some forks..dead easy...others..dead hard!
Upside down forks are the worst....can be a real sod to sort.
As said before...get someone to do it for ya. Jim Hay down Mearns Street did the TRX ones for about £50 including all the parts and oil.

Id make sure I was there watching the guy doing it for 20 quid.
Most forks need some kind of special tool ...... and its not a big pipe gripe or hammer.
Its not a difficult job, but one that needs to be done right .....
Downside of not doing it ......... oil in front brake caliper ...... shizzle handling .....
