Im lookig to tidy up my wheels on me bike.they are white in colour and was wondering if there was any special paint i can use that will be lasting and not discolour or chip.i was going to powdwer coat but i have the frame and swingarm to do,it was getting a bit expensive with the wheels also.So anyone help .much thanks in advance.

In the long run you are better off just biting the bullet and getting the wheels done at the same time. Painting them should be fine but when it comes to tyre change time Im pretty sure there is a good chance they will chip.

Do you know how much powdercoat goes on the wheels and if they weigh much more than before the powdercoating?

Have a word with PPS coatings in Inverurie. You might find that by going there for your frame etc you will be able to get the wheels done as well as they are cheaper than places in town and do a spot on job :)

has anyone tried a specific paint and found it to be good?.

The best paints are two pak versions that contain a hardner..BUT...they contain a Cyno activator to "bond" the paint to the surface. This stuff is LETHAL and needs specialist breathing apparatus and spray booths so it works out expensive.

You could try an etch primer such as Upol Acid 8 which is the stuff i use on my Landys. This eats into the metal surface providing a good bond, and then a hard bake paint over the top followed by lots of laquer..but I can assure you its going to cost more than £60 for the two wheels.

Wait a month longer and go for the powder coating :)

Remeber to factor in new bearings for your wheels with the powdercoating. You'll also have to get the old ones out first using a bearing puller.

You can carefully drift them out from the other side.

You are supposed to replace the bolts that fix the disks in place as well.
