Yamaha parts

Anyone know a good supplier of new parts for old Yamaha bikes. im looking for the gearbox main shaft. eccosse are just a bit expensive for such a small part .Thanks :2up

I think you are not going to have much choice but to go for genuine Yamaha bits unfortuantly. Trying to find bits for the TRX has been a nightmare. Fine if I want bar end weights etc but if i need a gasket, etc then it has to be Yamaha.

Bearings can be sourced from various bearing retailers, all you need is the bearing number and they will be able to source a replacement part, sometimes at better quality.

Think your rite m8 ill just have to go to eccosse , its not a million bucks , but its just such a small part for a load of cash , never mind , cheers anyway Bud , oh look ,im even starting to sound like martin I can't believe it's not butter! ;)

Have you tried any breakers? sometimes you can pick up a bargin :)

No doubt you're aware of this but most engine bits, gasket sets, etc. from the Tedium, sorry TDM, will go on a TRX. The later Tedium basically had the TRX engine as well, or was it that the TRX came with the later model Tedium engine? Anyway, you get my point.

Aware and already tested ;) Later TDM was a 900 though.

The Dutch seem to love the TRX and many performance parts can be sourced from Holland plus the Thundercat front end fits straight in and the early R! can fit with s little modification. Added R1 calipers which bold straight on, huge improvement!!!

Begs the question, would a Tedium 900 lump go in the TRX frame and would it be worth it?

Did the TRX not have a different crank and firnig order to give a V-Twin feel to it?

Yamaha built it to take on the Ducati 900 SS..which in most peoples opinion, it did very well indeed. Better electrics, better finish, better power delivery, but it lacked that Ducati name so never sold too well in the UK.


The crank timing was offset to 270 degrees to give it a V twin type power delivery and big dollops of torque.

A huge following in Holland and to a lesser extent, Germany and many have been raced so many performance parts are available :)

I think, but i am not 100% sure, that the 900 TDM delivers less power and torque than the TRX 850 lump.

There is a TRX with a Thunderace 1000cc lump in it but apparently its virtually unrideable :???

EDIT:
Just looked up the power outputs..TDM 82.6 BHP, TRX anything from 76 to 85 BHP depending on what market it was built for :roll UK should be 82.1 BHP..but a much lighter engine.

What you two on about :??? . anyway i cant get the bits from a breaker or bearing specialist . i have to go to Yamaha after all :evil

have u thought about getting a donor engine and using the bits to rebuild your engine.. thats the path i would go down or even buy a fully working engine and stick that in your frame then use the engine u have now as a donor if u need parts in the future...

Got to say thats the route many of us take with landrovers. We buy a wrecked landy and as long as the engine is ok its a great investment. See if you can get a written off one with undamaged engine :)

Should probably gone down that road at the start of the project but as all i need now is the main shaft and one bearing its probably not worth it , but thanks for the input guys . much appreciated.

If you ever fancy doing this talk to Tony Forster at Two Four Italia in Ringwood, Hants. He does 'em all the time (mostly for people who won't pay the service rates at Three Cross Highwaymen, sorry Motorcycles, to have their belts changed and end up coming a cropper). Yeah I know it's a long way away but he'll prolly sell you the brackets or at least tell you where to get 'em.
