Bandit 12 3rd gear growling

Post by Sgoaty »

My Mate has a 1998 bandit 1200 that he just picked up for £1200 its a really nice bike with lots of trick bits. It goes like a train and is in really good nick its done just over 40k.

The only issue with the bike is that it whines in 3rd gear up untill about 3000RPM If you put it on the center stand and listen it sounds more like a scraping growling noise. Is third gear a common fault on these bikes? Were a bit concerned as we plan to go away for the next few days and put around 1k on our bikes im just hoping it will survive untill we come back
thanks

Did he buy from a bike shop ,if so don't mess about and take it back asap , if it was a private sale go back to the seller and see if he will own up to any known problems. i know its a long shot but you never know . if your m8 has any concerns at all with the bike then id be getting it sorted before i go on any long trips. the last thing he wants is to be ballsing up his gear box at 80 mph out in the wilderness .

It was a private sale but for the money and the condition of the bike even if he has to replace the engine its still not a bad deal
