Hook +ive connection on the coil to +ive side of a battery, --ive connection to --ive side of battery, put plug into plug lead coming out of coil, run an earth wire from --ive side of battery and rap it round the plug thread, go to or make as dark as possible and look at electrode on plug while you disconnect/remove the --ive wire from battery.

Workshop manual should have the res in ohms for the primary and secondary coil circuits. If the first test does not give you a spark, not much point to ohm out the coil as it is a sealed unit, just replace it, if you get a spark, back check the wiring for broken / corroded wire inside the insulation.

nah nothing up with imports. the principals of a bike are the same, its just haynes need to pull there fingers out there arsed and get onto it.. they wont until they see the demand.. classic case of supply and demand

I have never found Haynes to be worth reading. but you really want to read up, go to the library where they stock many manuals for a number of bikes. A coil is a coil and one is very much like another.
