Going to throw this damn machine out the window!

Can someone please please help me. Ive recently installed a webcam and i can get it to work no problem, skype - piece of pi** but why oh why is there now no sound coming out of the computer at all. Ive checked all the connections and the settings and i can't see what is wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Big Kneed Al (master of the emergency stop & "stand up" comedian) before you say it - yes i have turned it of and back on again several times!

Worth checking..

Start, control panel and open 'sounds and audio devices'.

Go to the 'Audio' tab and check what the default device for sound playback is.
Could be the webcam has stolen this setting from your pissy's usual audio card.

ps the speakers are turned on aren't they? :scatter

Just a small point, but the camera would be for video.

You will need a sound card and speakers for sound.

The camera is for video and it has a built in microphone. There is a sound card in the machine and speakers attached. What i find confusing is they did work and now they dont - go figure. It will play the start up tune bit to begin with but then nothing. I get no sound from cd's, websites, warnings or more importantly at the moment from Skype.

I've checked the settings and tried plugging the speakers into one of the other outputs buts still nothing.

This is really puzzling me and i have drawn a complete blank as to what might be wrong.

Remove the web cam and associated software.

Try the speakers in 'original' mode to see if the falut is related to the web cam. :2up

Ok webcam uninstalled and sound works fine so how do i reinstall the camera without it stuffing up the sound again?? have checked the sound settings in control panel and they are what i had them set at the only difference is i had the microphone set to the webcam as that's where it is.

Good god i'm confused i'm no good at all this computer thinamygiggy stuff.

Just a thought from a computer numty but is your computer running vista and the webcam doesnt like it, vista that is :???

PROBLEM SOLVED :boing :boing :boing

After uninstalling the software and reinstalling it and the sound stuffing up again. Having someone come round to make sure i wasn't being total muppet - i gave up in true girlie "i cannae get this thing to work" style bought a different one and hey presto it works first time :I can't believe it's not butter!

What was the one that didn't work and what was the one that did?

Might be useful for any other girlies on here who'd like a web cam. ;)
