Well you were doing what the switch does, the switch completes the circuit, I would try another switch but it could still be a wiring fault, if a wire is rubbed through and the wire is going to earth then its acting like the switch, I would get a hold of an oil pressure gauge, it could be the pump...shortassrider wrote:i disconected the switch and the light went off , reconected and it came back on , could it still be faulty?

No guarantee a garage will be able to get to the bottom without expending a lot of time on the bike going through a process of elimination.dude900 wrote:ever thought about using a garage ?????????,
Hopefully in this case it's just the oil pressure switch that is at fault which is usually pretty painless to change out.

Remove the oil pressure switch and replace with an oil pressure gauge, you should be getting around 40psi+ above 4k rpm and about 15psi at idle, if you have less than that contact the dealer and ask them what pressure you should have with a diagnostic gauge.
If all is well then change your switch/sender unit.

i agree with this man. threre should be some oil come out.Newbus wrote:That dont sound good.Airlock could be one reason. Other could be faulty oil pump. There should be at least some oil coming out.shortassrider wrote:I Took the oil switch out and crancked the bike over , no oil came out . would the oil jet out if there was an air lock , anyone ?

If the Bike fell over then it could be possible the Pump itself has an air-lock its not the normal place to get one on a bike tho cranking it over should shift air and draw in oil
Its usually where the sensor goes into the block you get the airlock which causes the switch to think you have no oil.Oil pick up pipe blocked maybe ?

course there was oil ye cheeky bugger :I can't believe it's not butter! . changed the oil pressure switch , changed oil and filter to get rid of any possible airlock. oil light still staying on . read a print off from another website that baldy gave me earlier in the week and it mentioned something very simple to check . sit the bike upright start the bike and check if oil level drops , and it did , lots , thank f*ck I can't believe it's not butter! . so looks likely that you were right first time around garymitch, oil switch wire earthing somewhere. fwewwww

taken front faren off to replace indicator and oil light has gone off now. HOWEVER, oil glass has gone white with condiset. the bike has been sitting idle most of the time because of the oil light problem , sitting outside with a cover over it .do you think this is the problem or could it be something more sinister due to the off . she sounds a wee bit tinkery . i think ,or mabe its me worrying about nothing.
oh , the oil and filter was changed last week.
