Fazer starting problems

Post by ovad666 »

Help!

I have had a few issues with starting my 02 600cc Fazer the last few weeks. :( Has anyone idea on how to sort the following.

The battery is fully charged using an oxford maximizer 360T charger one day, use the bike that day, stored in shed overnight and next day there is not enough power to start the bike.

I have checked the altenator which seems to be returning current to the battery OK.

The battery was new beginning of last year, it should still be ok I think :??? ????

The only other thing I can think may have something to do with the problem is that I have a Meta m357 alarm installed, could it be draining the battery?

I have been leaving the bike outside the kitchen window(its covered with a stormex cover) the last few weeks so I can charge it over night, but with the amount of bikes being nicked at the moment worries me.

Any help or suggestion on what to do are welcome.

Cheers

is the alarm the same age as the bike. meaning was it fitted when the bike was new if so its probebly damp thats gotten in and is shorting out and thats why its flatning your battary.

i would take it out of the bike and get your self another alarm or its up to you. hope this helps you. :2up

I have a Meta fitted to my Bandit and it often sits for a month without being started.
When i do start it i have no problems whatsoever.
In fact, the Meta shuts down after 10 days

Could be as simple as a duff battery they can pack in without warning.Had a problem with my bike last year, wouldn't run worth a f*ck sometimes especially if left for a while. Was trying all sorts o shizzle until someone on here suggested dodgy battery, fitted a new one and the problem was fixed :2up

Cheers all :2up , will try the new battery option first. I really don't want to be trying to remove the alarm until its a last resort.

Checked out the installation cert as the alarm was fitted when I bought the bike and it was fitted way back in late 2002 so it possible is past it's best.

Anyone know who the meta dealer in aberdeen is?

take one battery lead off put an amp meter between the lead and the battery with everything switched off if your getting any amps accrross the lead/terminal something is draining the batter (i.e.alarm) if there is no current draw then I'd reckon either your battery is fecked or it would be worth seeing what the voltage output is at the battery with the bike running should be 13.4-14volts if much lower than this could be the reg rec or magneto not charging the battery enough during the day.
