Crankshaft/conrod bearings

Post by ezrider »

Can anyone tell me where in aberdeen is the best place to get the conrod bearings changed.
Need it done for a DRZ400s, the engine is stripped and crankshaft out.
Or can i do this myself, i think the crank needs to be balanced afterwards, and not sure about splitting the crank myself.
Cheers.

Phoned ecosse today, got told yes they could do it, in 5 weeks time, BUT "it'll cost a fortune" (their words, not mine) :eek
So phoned shirlaws, was told if they had the bearings in stock, they'd do it today, didn't have the bearings, but they ordered them, and i'll get it back end of next week.
great customer relations from Shirlaws. :worthy
Poor, poor, poor from ecosse :nono

Yes it will cost a fortune if the engine is not stripped down already (was that explained to Ecosse?).

Secondly, Shirlaws are the Suzuki dealer so you would hope that they would be able to get parts quickly. :deal

As for getting the work done at short notice, this is a difficult time of year as all the fairweather bikers are beginning to bring their bikes out of hibernation and want them serviced before the summer so you need to think ahead!!

Good luck with the repairs though.

Cheers Big Kneed Al (master of the emergency stop & "stand up" comedian), yes i did explain to ecosse that it was stripped out the engine, BUT, i don't think telling someone over the phone, "it's going to cost a fortune" is very good puplic relations, especially as with the right tools, it's a relatively straight forward job.
Compared to Shirlaws, £70 to order the bearings, fit them and balance the crank, excellent service.
I'm pretty sure anyone that had been told that over the phone would shop around.

I did a big end bearing years ago and found this company down south, S.E.P bearings. they did a great job and they were at the time not too expensive and quick.
