Shaking its heid

Post by Woody_100 »

Hi guys,
another question for you to help me with.

I just got my trx 850 the other day.......new to me, but an auld heap really ;)
It's shaking its head when I slow down. If I hold the handlebars very very lightly while doing this, you'd think you were on the point of a tank-slapper.
My original trx only did this when the front tyre was on the point of being knackered. This one's tyre seems fine, plenty of tread left. :???

Any pointers for what else I should be investigating?

thanks in advance,
Woody

I'd check for warped front brake disks first.

Then wheel bearings then head bearings.

Cheers Big Kneed Al (master of the emergency stop & "stand up" comedian),
I was thinking head bearings too.

To clarify; slowing down, but not touching the breaks.

Like I say, my first instinct would be that the front disks are warped in some manner. I know you are not on the brakes but it sounds exactly like what I got from my Firestorm when my disks were shagged.

:confused Might possibly be wheel balance, front most likely if it is that but could also be the rear, look at the swing arm play and rear wheel bearings too, rear wheel alignment maybe.

I had this right up until I got the tyres changed then it went away. Front tyre had a fair bit of wear on it but would have lasted another good few miles. Suppose it could have been out of balance though as the previous owner moaned on and on about the garage he took it to but kept going there. Just a note, North Harbour in Ayr? Don't.

If its shaking its head, might be one of these Yamaha's built in India.

When its head is shaking, does it also make a "buuuuuttt butt butt butt butt" sound?

If so, definately Indian made.
