Started getting a knocking feeling through my footrests when I was touring my NC29 last weekend. I noticed the chain was loose with the milege I had done from the start of the trip. Anyway this started to get more noticable to the point I could also hear it also.
Anyway my spanners are on loan to someone just now which I'm sure I'll get back soon so had to wait till I got the paddock stand into work for me to tighten the chain. Guess what the loving knocking is still there
Noticed the back wheel is a bit loose so the bearings will need replaced. I'm hoping that the fecked bearing is what is causing the noise/feeling but I'm a bit worried it might be something else ie:- something a bit more expensive to fix????

Lets hope so
Funny you should mention that, I was just talking with the cuplrit the other night.
Went into eccosse today and saw Bydand, which was quite reasuring as he also thought it was just the wheel bearings Also they had them in stock so I'll fit them tomorrow at work.
I'll have a good look at my chain Tones as thats good thinking, also might have a look at the front sproket and see what nick thats in also.
Also Bydand that quite an impresive thing you do with the stand to get the the wheels off the deck. I'm sure if I tried it I'd need to buy new fairings after
I've desided not to run the bike now as I don't want to wreck it anymore. I'll maybe get a new chain and sprokets but they look ok so I don't think they are causing the problem.
Not sure tho.
My friends a bike mechanic so once he's back from offshore I'll get him to have a good look.
My TT sounded like a bag of nails when I first got it and it was due to the front sprocket. Before you invest in a full chain & sprocket kit you could try just changing the front one. I'll give you a hand if you need it (an impact driver makes removing the old one a piece of piss).

The teeth should be nice in symetrical. If they are slightly worn on the leading edge then that can be enough to hook the rollers on the chain and cause a ticking sound and if it's bad enough you will feel it though your pegs.

I noticed a strange grinding sound (and felt it through my pegs) which has been getting worse. Thought it was a gearbox/clutch issue. Put it into Ride On Yamaha in Glasgow for an intermediate service (lazy I know) and mentioned it but they didn't find anything - and it passed it's MOT.
The noise is definately getting worse. Nothing noticable above about 20mph but it's quite obvious at lower speeds. I noticed that if I hold in the clutch I can hear/feel it knocking also when I kick it into neutral and release the clutch theres a knocking noise.
This post has got me thinking I should check the front sprocket. Can anyone recommend the most sensible course of action? Is it relatively easy for a dumbass like me to change the sprocket/bearings? Or should I just take it into Yamaha and get them to do it?
It's an 03 plate thundercat with 18500 miles BTW and full Yamaha service history.
If I can change a chain n sprockets, anyone can! Though the Tcat is a pain in the royal rectum to get to the front sprocket but 2.5 hours from start to finish and never done it before. If the clutch is in and it's still making the noise it aint the gearbox!
