does anyone know why Lorenzo has changed his number to 99 ???

according to MCN Yamaha have made alot of improvements to the M1 an mr Rossi seems very happy with it , title number 9 perhaps ???

Fiat Yamaha rider Jorge Lorenzo will give his M1 a new look for 2009, with the Spaniard trading in his `48´ racing number for a new figure.

Overall, Lorenzo will continue to run a similar design on his bike to that of his rookie year in MotoGP, thanks to confirmation of Fiat´s continuation as the factory Yamaha team´s title sponsor. However, a split with longtime manager Dani Amatriain has given the 21 year-old the incentive to change his racing number from that used by his former mentor.

After proposing four choices -23, 99, 87 and the selfsame 48- to readers of Spanish sports newspapers Marca and Sport, Lorenzo has now narrowed the shortlist down to two numbers. It will now be up to the 2008 Rookie of the Year to pick his number between 23 and 99
