Easy road trip for new biker

A new rider, just wanting to take things easy to begin with. Any suggestions for medium - easy scenic roads? With a good pub of course!

Firstly welcome to the site.

If you post up (or PM) where you want to start from and how many miles I will suggest you a few routes for you to try yourself.

Or why not join up with some of the others from the site for a couple of the sunday runs?

If you want to organise a run just post up a meeting place and time - it also helps people if you let them know on what type of bike you will be on.

You cant go wrong with a jaunt out the south deeside road,
various pub locations on the way too!

Unless it's a novice run, or you have the tenacity to hold back I would stay away from the normal runs for now.

Inevitably there's a few riders who want to race off at the front. Unfortunately there's a huge temptation for the riders at the back to ride fast if they want to stay in sight. Whilst the leaders always stops at junctions and wait, it's hard for slower riders to control the urge.

Riding in a pack will be useful for learning lines and technique (so long as you're following the right person). A novice run is perfect for this. Quiet a few of the guys are up for training rides.

As Zax says, just post a request and date for a novice run and see what interest you get.

A lovely road, just watch it once you get west of Aboyne as there's frequently a lot of loose grit on it this time of the year after the winter gritting.

Wise words from Zax and Gazza

"easy scenic roads"…just about everything west of Aberdeen

I love the roads between the Dee and the Don …but for some people just getting to Alford or Aboyne is the limit of their run , when really that is just when things start to get really nice and interesting

I hate to recommend these, as they aren't the routes I'd choose, but Grampian's finest have assessed these as relatively safe routes and they actually look pretty reasonable for novices and have at least a few stretches which are enjoyable.

Just had a look at these two runs. seem a good 2 for the evening runs at a novice pace. When does the evening runs start again?

Anytime you like, just post up.

If you are a novice just ask for an experienced rider to lead and help out.

I am very sure others will join in and help.

In the past few years, I have started many threads for runs, but due to personal circumstances for the next few months I cannot see myself kicking off any threads, but if I can make it to any run I will.

Good to see so many other bikes on the road today
