Keeping a bike on the street
Hey guys, I'm new here, watched some m13 videos on youtube which made me want to get a bike. Problem is, I'd have to keep it on the street in Aberdeen, do you think it's doable or sheer stupidity?

Short answer is yes its do'able no bother..

Yes I've had fewer problems with the bike when I kept it in a public street, than now that I have it at home.
As long as you pick the right location, chain and cover, you'll be fine!

Like the others say. Security is key. I've got my alarmed disc lock on the front wheel. Chunky chain on the back, attached to an immovable object and a cover to keep it out of sight to a degree.
I've found that having all that puts off the opertunist thieves. Touch wood still no trouble yet.

Hijack the thread for a moment
What is the best alarmed disc lock, one that Isn't going to falsely go off all the time?

Security security security
Used to be only real problems in the bad areas but these little minks are going out on what amounts to shopping trips to other areas now
End of the day you take the risk no matter what you do or where you are, just make it as hard as possible for anyone to steal it!!!!

I've had some problems in my area in the past with car break-ins, vandalism and a stolen motorbike, don't know if it was chained or alarmed, but would like to avoid the same fate. Anyways, thanks for the advice, I'll do my research into securing it before I buy and we'll see how it goes.

I find the best security is not having a shiny great fast desirable thing to nick! Depends on ones biking philosophy I suppsoefred wrote:I've had some problems in my area in the past with car break-ins, vandalism and a stolen motorbike, don't know if it was chained or alarmed, but would like to avoid the same fate.
