Big Drill

Bought myself a ground anchor today. Does anyone have a good sized drill I could use, the drill bit (16mm) I bought today doesnt fit into my 18Volt home drill. In return I shall donate the bit to the community once I have used it.

I have a hammer drill with a 13mm chuck, if your drill bit has a reduced shank it may fit. You can have a shot if you like

If you get stuck, try one of the tool hire places in town. You can hire masonary drills/bits for about Ã‚Â£15 a day.

If Scotts puny drill isn't up to the job I have a Hilti drill that will do the job.

I also have the same problem trying to drill the bolts into granite. I have the 16mm drill bit which seems to be holding up fine but the 760W Hammer drill I don't think is up to the job. Took me over an hour to drill one and a half holes which still leaves 2 and half to do.

Would a rotary drill make a big difference to the drilling speed or is it just because granite is so hard to drill.

S'pose one good thing is if the granite is this hard to drill in the first place then the Anchor should have a good grip on it so hopefully will be impossible to remove again.

A hammer drill is probably best, I doubt you'd make any progress at all without hammer action.

16mm into granite is pretty hard going. It might be easier to drill a pilot hole first (say 8mm), that way the impact loading will be on a smaller area for both sizes.
