CBR600FM-FR headlight

Set around replacing the cracked headlight on the road bike at the weekend - (every single bit of bodywork needs to come off apart the the small infill panel that fits behind the seat below the grab rail to get the headlight out !!!).
Fitted the new headlight and replaced the front upper fairing assembly. Fitted the headlight bulb and wiring then tried to fit the sidelight bulb.....except there was no hole in the replacement headlight for the bulb.
Took the thing back apart to get a better look and check all the numbers on the plastic shell and the lens which all matched so absolutely identical but without a hole in the bottom of the headlight shell for the sidelight bulb.
I thought about drilling it out but the reflector inside also had a cut out to clear the bulb. I also tried to remove the cracked lens from the old light to swap them but they are glued in.
Another headlight ordered and should be here tomorrow, but does anyone have any idea why one would not have a hole for a sidelight?

maybe for a newer version where the dipped headlight is on constantly, no need for side light then

That kind of ran through my mind also but the Haynes manual shows the same wiring diagram for all FM-FR models. The headlight shape changed for the FS model.

If I wire the sidelight supply to the dipped main bulb, will the bike pass an MOT?

I think some earlier models had a separate sidelight fiting.

on a lot of our euro-cousins bikes there are no sidelights as their bikes are set for running on dipped lights all the time as are a lot of new bikes sold in uk now

Got another headlight and all is fitted ok. The one without the bulb was indeed a euro spec headlight (haynes manual makes reference in the text). The glass is identical to the UK item so I guess the beam pattern must be done by the L/R adjustment.

Have a look at http://www.hondatech.info/downloads/moto/ you will find a Honda Workshop manual for the CBR600 91-94 F1.............its about half way down the list in the centre section of the page.
Its about 53Mb in zip format.

For anyone else looking, there are lots of other models covered on this site.
