Gasket removal solutions?

I'm replacing the head on the Z750E and all the gaskets have come off quite cleanly bar the base gasket which is stuck fast to the crankcases.
There are a few factors which make this a difficult task.
1- Bits possibly getting into the bottom end. Packing with cloths/rags makes it difficult to see properly.
2- The studs make it awkward to get a clean go at the gasket with a Gay Blade/tool of any description.
3- Aerosol gasket remover has no effect

I don't want to remove the engine or studs to make access easier unless it's absolutely neccessary so any 'TopTips' are very welcome.

heat it with a hot air gun?

I've always used a good sharp stanley, seems to do the trick,just the stanley on it's own not attatched to the knife.

+1 on the hoover, forget stuffing it with rags etc.

Plastic pan scourer and Evo Stick thinners, used this a lot.

The hoover idea was a great help. Saved loads of grief.
