I've never had a problem riding on the road with trailies. Even back in the 70's and 80's I remember being astounded as to just how sticky they were.
Admittedly, proper road tyres are better in ideal conditions and I wouldn't use them for track tyres. But I'd certainly show no fear whatsoever of using them on the road. Especially when wet and dirty, as the Scottish roads are half the year.

If you fit them to your bike you will end up offroading whether you loke it or not as you will slide off the road at the first corner you come to.
Unless you think you're Marquez they'll be fine on the road.
Never believe everything you read. I tried a GS adventure with them fitted and it was the most frightening ride of my life. I had so stop after a few corners and swap back to my own bike.

I've yet to find a bad review of them as road tyres. Nearly every report says they are pretty good or excellent. Maybe there was something else wrong with that GS.

That wouldn't surprise me. ;-)
Riding on knoblies on the road if you haven't done so before can be an erse clencher, but as gazza says, once you get used to the movement on them, you can ride them fairly hard. We had an off road weekend a couple years back doing the corrieyarick etc and we all fitted knoblies (I already had them on my ten) one of the guys really struggled on the road on Karoos but also couldn't believe the speed and lean angles I was doing on my ten.
