Timing Retard Eliminator

Post by Graeme »

After speaking to a couple of folks at yesterdays dyno sesh, I fancy getting one of these things. I've done some Googling but still have some questions for those that have got them fitted:

- Is it as easy to fit as it says - simply a case of plugging it in?
- Are there any reliability issues?
- They're marked Race Use Only - so does it need to be removed for an MOT (emmissions test?)

And finally, where's a good place to get them from? The cheapest I found is £25 for a 'Smart TRE' on eBay.

Cheers ;)

I had one on my gixxer. Just lift the tank and plug it in, easy peasy :P

But I'd be lying if I said it made any noticeable difference though :(

Fitting is easy.

I did notice that the bike was less "on/off" in town. Very slight improvement in the lower gears but not that noticable.

I know they are more expensive but,

I fitted a DynoJet PowerCommander to my gixxer 750 and it`s probably the best mod I`ve made to it.

Smooth fuelling throughout all the revs
Less of an on / off switch throttle
no dip in power @ 5000rpm for the EU emmissions etc

Fitted it last night. It's definately smoother now, all the snatchiness has gone especially at low rpm, including the weird surging effect I used to get in 30-zones when riding on constant throttle at @2800-3000 rpm.

There's a wee bit more power from low down - the front wheel lifted in 1st gear this morning @6000 rpm pulling away from a junction and it doesn't normally do that unless it's on full throttle.

:cool

The same thing most folk get when they start drumming on about power commanders. :roll

The 750's always been snatchy at low rpm - now it isn't.

The claimed power gains are probably negligible but it seems a bit quicker off the mark.

There arn't any power gains at all, the timing is only retarded up to half throttle, the TRE makes no change above this.
It has smoothed out the low speed throttle response on my SV, and i've found the bike to be a bit more wheelie prone as the power comes in at a smaller throttle opening, which is nice.

Yes yes, I know how it works . :eek

The TRE (Timing Retard Eliminator) is a device that allows much better throttle response in the first four gears on all EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) Suzuki sport bike models. What the manufacturer has done is to make a separate ignition map for each gear. This has been done for either safety (Wheelies/wheelspins!) and/or emissions reasons. However, it limits the power and smoothness of your bike in the first ½ turn of the throttle in gears one through to four. Quick facts about the TRE:-

  • The TRE is a direct ‘plug in’ installation to your bike - no cutting or splicing;
    The TRE has no effect at full throttle;
    The TRE does have an effect at throttle openings up to ½ in gears one through to four at any RPM;
    The TRE will disable the speed limiter on the 2001 GSXR1000 and 2001 GSX1300R;
    The TRE does NOT affect full throttle power - This has been verified on the dyno as well as on the road under controlled conditions;
    The TRE is legally for race use only.
    The TRE will work in all these models: 1998 and up TL1000S (use TRE003 for 1997 TL1000S); 1998 and up TL1000R; 1999 and up GSX1300R ; 1998 - 2005 GSXR750; 2001- 2005 GSXR600; 2001 - 2004 GSXR1000; 2002 and up SV1000;

Still a rip off for a jumped up resistor through :bang

I'm just away to B&Q to get some empty boxes. I'll post the link to the eBay shop when they are ready! ;)

Technically you're right as pinching a loaf before riding would improve the power to weight ratio ;)

A TRE arrived this morning, with no fitting instructions.

Any idea where to look for the connection other than under the tank, can't see any compatible connectors. Don't make me take the airbox off it's a bugger to put back on.

I'm going to break it, i can feel it. Look out for the post in a hours time saying HHHHEEEELLLLLPPPPPP!!!
