I am planning on changing my chain and my sprockets as part of my service the bikes away to get before the summer arrives. I noticed a few types of chain's and a few makes such as Renthal and DID. What's the general opinion of these or any others?
Maybe someone can recommend a chain/sprocket kit for my bike.
If you havent already then get a -1 front sprocket, it make the bike so much better. Try doing a search for kits that include all three. For rear sprockets be wary of some as they are relatively soft and dont last that long (~3-5000m) i.e. if getting a Renthal get the hard anodised.
Ive just got a Tsubaki chain and its a decent piece of kit.
Cupar will supply the most appropriate sprocket and chain set.
As Coullstar says, if ye want more acceleration drop a tooth on the front or add 2-3 on the rear. Your speedo will be out as will the mileage due to the different gear ratios.
Many years ago, a brand new chain (fitted by myself) broke after just 400 miles and punched a hole into my crankcase.
DID reckoned on inspection that a stone had been flung from the road into the upper side of the chain returning to the rear sprocket and split the chain as it was pushed onto the sprocket. Not really their fault, but they replaced the chain and sprockets under warrnty.......
As well as paying for all breakdown and recovery costs and a new set of crankcases (I did the strip and rebuild myself).
