Alternator Cover Replacement

Now on my last replacement...and got a bit of a shock.

Removed the alternator cover and oil starts pissing out, which i wasnt expecting

anyway after reading the net, i see thats normal as its engine oil???? so I will have to replace my oil then , isit just a straight swap over now with the parts like the stator etc... onto the new shiney cover? I dont have to disconnect the battery do I since the alternator is electric??????

Yes, you should disconnect the battery. Make sure any dowels are correctly located in the cover or crankcase as these are essential to prevent the stator from touching the rotor.

I think that the problem was caused when you posted up that you were only having a very small problem with a circlip in your previous post..

The only other thing that I would add to missles comments is that when you fit the new gasket take your time to line the bugger up properly otherwise you may end up doing the job again.
Also make sure you clean off any remnants of the old gasket from the face on the engine before reassembly.

It is advisable however not essential to drain the engine. You can lay it over so the oil does not come out.
